| The Emirate of Kuwait is situated a the head of the Persian Gulf, and is bordered to the South by the Al Hasa desert region of Saudi Arabia, and Iraq which has a narrow exit to the port of Umm Qasr before the territory of Iran. Most of the population lives in Kuwait City, the capital and administrative centre whose water towers are a famous international landmark. There are also a number of islands offshore, such as Bubiyan Island which is being developed as a tourism resort.
