Saudi Arabia cancels film festival
2:25 AM
The only film festival to be held in Saudi Arabia has been cancelled. It was supposed to be held in December, in the country where cinema has been banned for almost 30 years. As the Gulf Times reports citing the words of one of the organizers of the festival, the news came from the governor of Jeddah. It is assumed that he had been instructed by higher authorities. The reason for the cancellation was not announced. However, it is known that many conservative Saudis including members of the religious police were opposed to the festival. So, the hopes for the cinema to be soon revived in Saudi Arabia after so many years have not come true.
