Sudanese forces seize rebel held area in Darfur

Sudanese armed forces say they have seized control of a rebel held area in western Darfur. More than 150 members of the Justice and Equality Movement were killed, 61 rebels were detained, 16 cars and three large trucks were confiscated. "We have liberated Jebel Moon from the Justice and Equality Movement," Aljazeera.net quotes Al-Sawarmi Khaled, an army spokesman, as saying. The army gave no information of its casualties in the clashes. The Sudanese government signed a peace pact with the movement in February. It was hailed by the international community as a major step towards setting peace in Darfur after seven years of war.
