Syrian and Saudi heads arrive in Lebanon

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia visit Beirut. Both leaders express hope that the trip will lead to "major stability". It is the first visit to the country by Mr Assad since 2005, when Damascus was forced to withdraw troops after the assassination of former PM Rafik Hariri. The two men are concerned that tensions may spark if, as rumoured, a UN tribunal indicts members of the militant Hezbollah movement for Mr Hariri's killing. Hezbollah is Syria's main ally in Lebanon, while Hariri had close ties to Saudi Arabia. His son, Saad, is the incumbent Lebanese prime minister.
