Tunisia urges Ottawa to freeze Ben Ali family assets
8:16 AM
Tunisia's envoy has once again called for Canada to seize the assets of toppled Tunisian president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali's brother-in-law Belhassen Trabelsi. The billionaire is the eldest brother of Ben Ali's wife Leila Trabelsi. "Canada must quickly freeze the assets before they disappear", middle-east-online.com quotes Ambassador Mouldi Sakri as saying. "All we've been told so far is that Canadian privacy laws prevent the government from disclosing information in the case" he added. Trabelsi is reported to have arrived in Montreal with his wife, children aboard a private jet last month and requested asylum.
