Tunisians want Ben Ali to stand trial in the dock
8:03 AM
Tunisians criticised Tuesday the authorities' decision to put ousted president Zine el Abidine Ben Ali on trial in absentia next week. They insist he should be made to stand in the dock. "It won't be the trial we wanted for Ben Ali," Middle-east-online.com quotes journalist Taoufik Ben Brik as saying. "He is responsible for thousands of cases of torture, he is responsible for hundreds of deaths. His family looted the country. These are serious crimes. How can we try him if he is not there?" he added.
